Different emotions in a Metro life

By Joginder Tuteja (IndiaFM) |
Friday, 24 November , 2006, 11:51

When you have actors like Shilpa Shetty, Shiney Ahuja, Kay Kay Menon, Konkona Sen Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Sharman Joshi and Kangana Ranaut coming together with Anurag Basu as a director, one thing that you can be assured is that performances would be superlative in the film. A glimpse of the same is seen in the 90 seconds promo of this UTV film titled Metro that takes a viewer through relationships based in cosmopolitan India.

Romance
Who said love cannot blossom after marriage; well with a different person!? After Kank and 'Bas Ek Pal', the emotion is hardly considered a taboo and same happens for Shilpa Shetty too who gets into a romantic rendezvous with Shiney Ahuja. How about some old fashioned yet beautifully subtle realization of love with Shilpa's flying umbrella in a rain and Shiney acting as a cool Samaritan?

Anger
Romantic rendezvous is all fine but then there is always a home to return! And this is where one faces the reality, or rather announces it as Shilpa and her screen husband played by Kay Kay Menon get into an argument. Watch out for some histrionics on display here. With Kay Kay around, that's the least to be expected!

Greed
All I want is a lot of money....and some honey. This is what the character of Sharman Joshi is based on which works as an executive in a call center. Never feeling shy about his love for money even while he is shy of expressing his true feelings to his lady love, Sharman is seen with a twinkle in his eyes and tongue firmly in cheek as he explains the true value of money!

Love
Love. Now what's that? Ask Konkana Sen Sharma and she is certainly going to give an answer....and that too with a smile! After all she is one woman here who is still looking for that elusive love...and a man, even if she is on the wrong side of the 30s. As she changes from a bespectacled woman to a glamorous working woman of today, she encounters a man who even says 'I Love You' with a straight face and asks in return "You Love Me?' with the same (lack of) intensity sans any display of emotions. The man is Khan...Irrfan Khan! Will LOVE bloom here?

Lust
There is a sequence or two for the peeping toms as Kangna shares her most intimate moments while sharing an illegitimate relationship with Kay Kay Menon. Affection, taunt and hurt are all rolled into one as she asks Kay Kay a question about bringing her out for a night out!

Deception
Feeling of hurt is prevalent once more as Shilpa realizes that her marriage is on the rocks. And she tries to hide her emotions to the best, but not to much avail...even though she claims that a marriage teaches one to act at the least. Yes, there is some pain visible here indeed!

Happiness
But depression and pain cannot be for long, isn't that so? Especially when a woman realises that there is a world outside home....and probably even a man. As she watches a movie while laughing her heart out with Shiney, Shilpa finds a bundle of happiness in those small moments. Or were those small bits of happiness just making her moments bigger?

Jealousy
Can you have everything forever? Even when you have let it go off your hands yourself? This is one question that Kay Kay certainly needs to answer before he asks Shilpa if she has slept around with Shiney! Meanwhile Konkana Sen Sharma too has her reasons to be furious with Sharman as she believes that he is being a chauvinist!

One City Countless Emotions
Shots of Mumbai from different camera angles are shown at the beginning and end of the promo as numerous clippings of characters in their happy and sad moments are interspersed. However what comes a surprise is the soulful background music which comes straight from 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' where it was played number of times when Tanushree Dutta came on screen!

In the end it is just apt for Irrfan Khan to sum up the essence of the story in a single line - "Rishety koyi guarantee card ke saath thode hi aate hain!"

Coming this February 16th, Metro is one movie that may just pep up your Valentines!

'Metro' captures big city stress: Anurag Basu
Monday, October 30, 2006

Director Anurag Basu, whose forthcoming 'Metro' zooms in on career stress and peer pressure, says the film shows how big city life affects people and relationships.

With Shilpa Shetty, Kay Kay Menon, Shiney Ahuja, Kangana Ranaut, Konkona SenSharma, Irrfan Khan and Sharman Joshi in the cast, the film is slated to release in January, reports Bollywood Trade.

Basu claims 'Metro' captures real life drama and is a realistic film.

'The film is about how today's big city life impacts people and relationships. We are all working at a breakneck speed. The stress, long working hours, peer pressure and loans take a toll on our personal life.

'The film shows how we get caught up in this vicious circle and everything else takes a backseat. It basically addresses real life issues,' he said.

'It's about life in any metro city and not just Mumbai. I have a lot of friends working in call centres and back-offices, struggling to make money. I spoke to them, got to know about their problems and that's how the idea shaped up,' Basu added.

'The characters are inspired from my acquaintances like one of my cousins and a few other associates,' said the director of 'Dus' and 'Tum Bin'.

He said: 'Every character is integral to the script and contributes in a way. Shilpa is married to Kay Kay and they have a sea-facing flat. They get busy paying instalments and love takes a backseat.

'Konkona plays a fun character unlike the serious, mature roles she's done earlier. 'Metro' shows her in a different light, something that she's never done before. She studies, does her post-graduation, hunts for a job and gets busy with her career. One fine day, she realises that she's 30 and still single.

'Sharman and Kangana work in a call centre. Their rapport explores the call centre culture rampant today. Youngsters are driven by money and success and Sharman's character falls into that category,' said Basu.

Metro - It's a big-small world!
Exclusive by Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, November 20, 2006]

What are some of the common features that make a METRO?

Rising sensex. A smaller world. Short distances due to cell phones. Multiplexes showing 10 movies a day. Closer cities due to low coast airlines. Malls mushrooming at every corner of the city. Too many choices. Too many dreams. Not enough sleep. The seven year itch has come down to 7 months. Or lesser. There's less time for breakfast. Even lesser time for dinner. And no time for lunch.

That's LIFE. That's METRO.

And there are people like Rahul [Sharman Joshi], Neha [Kangna Ranaut], Ranjeet [Kay Kay Menon], Shikha [Shilpa Shetty], Akash [Shiney Ahuja], Shruti [Konkona Sen Sharma] and Debu [Irrfan Khan] who come together in this METRO.

Rahul [Sharman Joshi] and Neha [Kangna] were never in a relationship. But Rahul wanted to turn it around his way. As a young call center executive in a Mumbai based BPO, he wanted everything, which included money...and of course Neha, his boss! On the other hand Neha had plans of her own. She was young, sexy and good looking. Add to that her trait of being a hard worker and she knew she too could get everything that she desired - a high position in the organization and visibility.

So what, if for that she has to get into a sexual relationship with her boss Ranjeet [Kay Kay Menon], a man who was ever willing to give Neha all what she wanted, materialistic or sexual, as long as the question of commitment never arose.

It wasn't as if Ranjeet was alone at him. He had someone like Shikha [Shilpa Shetty] as his wife who was maximum he could have bargained for. She herself was beautiful, sexy and in fact a much better student than him but still for Ranjeet, it was Neha who mattered most. In spite of the fact that he and Shikha also had a 6 year old son. Hence while Shikha stayed at home to take care of their son and household chores, Ranjeet spent most of his time in office to become more successful and be in close proximity with Neha.

Expectedly, Ranjeet and Shikha were not sharing a best of the relationships and it hardly came as a surprise when Shikha and Akash [Shiney Ahuja] got attracted to each other and the attraction soon became love. Ironical though because while Ranjeet was successful all the way, Akash was just the opposite and could easily be labeled as a loser and a rebel without a cause. A struggling theatre artist and a divorcee since his wife rightly believed that success was eluding him for too long, Akash was just not the perfect choice for Shikha, even though she tended to think otherwise!

Between all this, there is also an episode of Amol, a 70 year old man who has returned to India after 40 years just for one single reason - to be with his first love Vaijanti and spend last few years of his life with her! A small world indeed since Vaijanti was Shikha's aunty, her moral support and lived in an old age home.

In this small world, there were many more stories that were interconnected. One such story was that of Shruti [Konkana Sen Sharma] who was Shikha's sister and Neha's room mate. A producer at Radio Mirchi, she was in her 30s and as (ill)luck would have had it, still a virgin! And now she had just one mission left in life - to get hooked on to a guy and get married.

Teil 2

Two guys came in her life soon - RJ Wishy K who worked at the same radio station and Debu [Irrfan Khan]. While she gets into a relationship with Wishy K, her detest for Debu was unprecedented too! An ordinary man whom she met through a matrimonial site, Debu was just not the kind with whom Shruti could have spent her life. Well, at least that was the first impression that she had!

Story moved on and all the characters were destined to interact with each other at some or the other point in their life. Starting with Rahul, he had devised a novel mechanism to step up the ladder of success - to let men in his office bring in their girlfriends, mistresses and prostitutes at his apartment of which he was the sole occupant.

His only demand for the 'services' provided by him? A recommendation for his out of turn promotion.

Little did he have an idea that one fine day, he would be face to face with the love of his life, Neha, as she would be brought in to his house by Ranjeet!

He would never have found her in his apartment if not for the tiff between her and Ranjeet. She wanted commitment while Ranjeet was hardly interested in that. In a fit of anger, he left her in Rahul's apartment, all alone, and this is when he discovered her. Neha also discovered his true love for her and the two got closer. But would this relationship last long?

Story reaches its crescendo as Amol goes back after Vaijanti's death. For Shruti it was time to face the truth as she discovers that Wishy K is a gay. She gets in touch with Debu, joins his office and even proposes to him at his wedding, only to run away again. Meanwhile Ranjeet takes a bold step of letting Shikha know about his relationship with Neha. Shikha equally reciprocates as she breaks the news to him about her affair with Aakash.

The world around everyone starts crumbling and Ranjeet leaves his home. Meanwhile Aakash too decides to leave the country and invites Shikha to join him. On the other hand Rahul is simply not interested in the big race anymore and decides to leave the METRO forever. And the chase begins!

Neha chases Rahul. Shikha chases Akash. Debu chases Shruti.

Will they meet or cross each other in this BIG METRO? And would destiny have something more in plan for them to decide the course of their lives?

Anurag Basu's Metro unveiled at IFFI
Udita Jhunjhunwala\ HT Style
Goa, November 27, 2006

Using the platform of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, producers, UTV screened a short trailer to introduce Anurag Basu’s Metro. Present at the the Q&A session, along with Ronnie Screwvala of UTV and Basu were three cast members: Shilpa Shetty, Shiney Ahuja and Kangana Ranaut.

The film also stars Kay Kay Menon, Konkona Sensharma, Irrfan and Sharman Joshi with music by Pritam.

Basu described the film as, “A celebration of life. Metro is a fun, musical film about people coping with fast-paced city life”." Ranaut added that the film has three inter-connected stories. She plays Neha, “A girl from a small town who comes to the big city and is willing to take any short cut to get her break.”

Although Shiney Ahuja’s film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi was a big festival favourite, he said IFFI was his first film festival. “I was a newcomer then and not invited,” he joked, before adding, “My character in Metro is a guy who is so busy chasing dreams that he loses all that matters.”

Though she has been to Cannes, this was Shilpa Shetty’s first IFFI. “I couldn’t make it the year Phir Milenge was screened but I am glad Metro is being promoted on such a prestigious platform,” she said before describing her character of Shikha as “a very urbane woman who is a mother, wife and lover.”

Asked to compare IFFI with other festivals, Screwvala said, “Every concept needs a few years to mature and IFFI is heading towards being a meaningful event. We thought it was a lovely platform to launch new concepts, hence the introduction to Metro.”

Anurag Basu introduces Metro cast
By: Joginder Tuteja, IndiaFM

Still from MetroAnurag Basu gave a stunning Gangster exactly 6 months back and the accolades have not yet stopped coming in. One of the classiest products by Vishesh Films ever, the film helped everyone associated with it to look for greater heights in the coming years. Meanwhile Anurag Basu is giving finishing touches to his tale of urban relationships - Metro, which is a UTV production. Set for a release this February, the film boasts of a powerful starcast comprising of Shiny Ahuja, Shilpa Shetty, Kay Kay Menon, Kangana Ranaut, Irrfan Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma and Sharman Joshi.

In an exclusive conversation, Anurag Basu gives a character sketch of his lead protagonists...

Shiney Ahuja - loser

He is the loser in my film. He plays a man who tries to run but is left a lot behind in the rat race.

Shilpa Shetty and Kay Kay Menon - all house no home
They play a couple who live in this big city. They have been married for long and have all the luxuries that they could have hoped for. They have a sea facing flat and the works but then they are also saddled with hefty EMIs. They have got in a house but the question is "do they have a home?"

Kangana Ranaut - career comprises
She is a young working girl who doesn't mind using her looks and body for getting up in the ladder. In her heart she knows what is right and what's not - par woh dil ko maar ke sab kuch karti hai sirf upar pahaunchne ke liye. She has a unique love triangle with both Kay Kay and Sharman. While she uses Kay Kay in her endeavor to get what she wants, Sharman is someone who is in love with her.

Konkana Sen Sharma - virgin at 30
She is someone who has reached 30 years of her age with an entire life going into studies. She had been to college and is a graduate. Her problem? She is still a virgin and now she is going berserk in her search for a perfect man.

Irrfan Khan - you have got 'male'

His is an interesting character. Now most of us men would agree that even if we are married, we can't help gazing at a stunning female with a good bod. He is someone of the same kind though he is not married. He doesn't have a girlfriend but is now looking at getting married. He meets Konkana through a marriage portal, gets into a blind date, phir wo dono milte hain, bichadte hain aur unki story aage chalti hai!

Sharman Joshi - money minded
He is one of those young bloods for whom money is most important. As per him, ek baar paisa mil jaaye, bas life set ho jaayegi....baad ki baad mein dekhenge!

Metro - Most awaited album of 2007
By: Joginder Tuteja, Glamsham
Friday, December 22, 2006 RSS

Scene from MetroIt has been a good year for Bollywood, both when it comes to films running at box office as well as sheer range of music that audience has been exposed to.

With great hopes of the feat to be repeated, one looks forward to the music albums that would be out in the first quarter of 2007! And the album that wins hands down in anticipation quotient is none other than Pritam's Metro!

There are multiple reasons that make Metro special. a) Pritam has delivered a wide range of music for all his films in 2006, b) He promises to rock the show with the rock band he has been creating for the film, c) Anurag Basu's last Gangster had some great music by Pritam and d) Metro is an A grade project that comes from the house of UTV and boasts of a powerful starcast comprising of Shiny Ahuja, Shilpa Shetty, Kay Kay Menon, Sharman Joshi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kangna Ranaut and Irrfan Khan.

With credentials like above, it is hard to believe that Metro won't turn out to be a smashing album that would dominate the music stands when it arrives.

Noch was zur Online-Premiere

da stehen auch die preise von rajshri.. "low-resolution version costing $ 9.99 and a high-bandwidth file at $ 19.99." mal sehen wie sich das mit den downloads äußert.. runterladen wollte ich nichts.. dafür ist meine verbindung viel zu schlecht... Smily "tutmirleid"

Smily "tutmirleid"
